Whistleblowing

Increasingly companies make use of whistleblowing procedures as they are regarded as an essential element of an effective ethics and compliance program. Whistleblowing can be defined as a process of reporting risk outside of regular channels where those channels prove inadequate or non-responsive. Contrary to common belief, this does not mean going to the media, which is an option of last resort, but rather looking for the appropriate office that can help address the risk. The course will offer insight in such procedures and give the participants the competence to put in place an effective whistleblowing system. Legal systems more and more structure the process of whistleblowing and the protection of legitimate whistle-blowers. This will be addressed in the course and it will be made clear how to distinguish legitimate whistle blowers from illegitimate whistle-blowers.
